Yangın algılama ve uyarı sistemleri yangınla mücadelenin en önemli aşamasıdır. Yangın algılama ve erken uyarı sistemleri, yangının etkin bir şekilde kontrol altına alınması gereken ilk dakikalarında, tehlikenin algılanmasını saglayıp ilk müdahale aşamasını hızlandırarak can ve mal kaybını önlemek için kurulurlar .

Genel olarak erken uyarı sistemleri, yangının üç karakteristik özelligi olan duman, ısı ve alevden birini veya birkaçını algılayarak çalısır. Yangının duman, ısı ve alev özelliklerini algılamak için üretilmiş degişik dedektör tipleri mevcuttur. Ancak bunlar tek başlarına yeterli olmayabilir ve bir arada kullanılmaları gerekebilir. Yangın ihbar sistemleri, dedektörlerinden aldıgı yangın alarmını yorumlayarak çıkışlarını (söndürme sistemi, siren, telefon hattı vs.) aktif hale getiren sistemlerdir.

In general, early warning systems detect one or several characteristic features of fire such as smoke, heat and flame. There are different types of detectors, developed to detect characteristic features of fire like smoke, heat and flame. However, individually they can be insufficient, it will be more sufficient to use them together integrally with each other. Fire alarm systems ? they are systems, which activate outputs (fire suppression systems, alarm and telecommunication systems etc.), interpreting the fire alarm transmitted by the detectors.
